The road from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz is 14 km between pine trees. At the end of the bumpy road, a huge blue sky appears in front of you. This is Belcekiz Bay. When you walk on the beach along the bay, you will see the unique Ölüdeniz. Ölüdeniz is almost magical and stands still. There is not a single moss at the bottom, it is covered with white sand. The light refracted by the water and sand at the bottom gives it a turquoise color. The shadow of the pines falls on Ölüdeniz and enriches this impressive turquoise. The name Belcekiz is also based on a legend. In ancient times, the ships passing by came to the shore with boats, anchored and drank in the open water. One day, when the young and handsome son of an old captain goes to the bay to get water, he sees the beautiful Belcekiz. He is shot on sight.
The girl's heart is also on fire. But the boy has to get the water and come back. The ship moves away. Belcekiz is always watching the shore and her lover. The boy also comes to fetch water every time the ship passes these places. So they meet and make love.
With the waves, the struggle between father and son grows. Just as the ship was about to hit the rocks, the captain threw his son into the sea with a stroke of the oar and when he saw the situation, he took the helm. The sea turns and enters a cove like a sheet. The boy dies there. Belcekiz, who was waiting for her loved one on the rocks, lost her life by throwing herself from the rocks. After that day, the place where the girl died is called Belcekiz, and the place where the man died is called Ölüdeniz. The sea, which changes color according to the course of the day, maybe burns from a boy to a girl.
An area of 950 hectares in Ölüdeniz has been declared as Kıdrak Nature Park and taken under protection. This area, which includes Ölüdeniz Lagoon and Kıdrak Beach, is also within the protected area and special environmental protection area.
