HISTORICAL INFORMATIONS ABOUT MUGLA

Muğla, which connects the Aegean and Mediterranean seas with its turquoise waters and virgin bays, is waiting to be explored. It is like a hidden paradise, where the sun, blue and green are intertwined, shedding light on the history of hundreds of ancient cities and ruins from 8,000 years ago. Muğla has Türkiye's longest coastline, it hosts many local and foreign tourists with its historical and cultural values and natural beauty. The city is located in the south of the Aegean Region. In addition to its magnificent sea and natural beauty, it is also the home to many civilizations such as the Carian, Lycian, Roman, Byzantine, and Seljuqian, as well as the Menteshe Principality, and the Ottomans.

In ancient times this city was named Caria, Menteshe under the Turks, is called Muğla today. Muğla was also mentioned in the works of the world famous traveler Evliya Çelebi, and the famous historian Herodotus. The famous historian and "father of history" Herodotus, who was born in Bodrum (ancient Halicarnassos), reported that the "Caria" came from the Aegean islands and settled in this region. On the other hand, the Turkish sailor Turgut Reis, who was an admiral in the Ottoman Empire's navy and known as the conqueror of Tripoli, was born in this land, and the town where he was born was named after him.

Muğla, which is frequented by millions of people because of its natural, historical and cultural beauties, and with its districts Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Köyceğiz, Datça, Milas, and Ortaca, and hundreds of bays waiting to be discovered, looks literally like embroidery.

In addition to its enchanting sea, sand and sun; Muğla has a rich potential by offering various other possibilities. Tourism types such as water sports, cycling and trekking, paragliding, green tourism, caves, health and cultural tourism generate the alternative tourism diversity in the city.

Muğla, city, southwestern Turkey. It is located on the edge of a small plain about 12 miles (20 km) north of the Gulf of Gökova.

A favourite residence of the emirs of the 14th-century Turkmen Menteşe principality, it was annexed to the Ottoman Empire in 1425. It is a local market for the agricultural products of the region and is linked by road with İzmir and Denizli. The surrounding region borders on the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. The coast is extremely irregular, with deeply penetrating gulfs and bays backed by the mountains. Interspersed among the hills and mountains are heavily cultivated small, enclosed basins. The climate is Mediterranean, with heavy winter precipitation. Citrus fruits are grown on the coastal strip and cereals, cotton, and tobacco in the hinterland; vines are grown in the fertile basin below Muğla. Lying in the region of ancient Caria, the area is rich in historical sites. The associated harbour towns of Bodrum (ancient Halicarnassus), Marmaris, and Fethiye are the focus of a growing tourist trade. Pop. (2000) 43,845; (2013 est.) 64,706.

دليل النقل

Although tourist spots can be reached by certain companies or public transportation provided by the municipality, it is really an excellent event to be able to travel freely without depending on the departure time or route of the vehicles. If you have the opportunity, you don't even need to read other articles.

Our only suggestion is to keep spare tires and the necessary tools with you. Because on some routes, the roads are very rough, stony or potholed. Other than that, there are no problems.

In Muğla, where the minimum taxi fare is 18,75 TL (landed -boarded), a gradual tariff is applied to pay a lower fare for passengers who will travel long distances.

There are private companies that provide transportation services between Milas-Bodrum Airport and Dalaman Airport and the districts, neighborhoods and holiday resorts of Muğla. MUTTAŞ and HAVAŞ are two of them.

It is estimated that the canyon was formed by geological cracking thousands of years ago. The length of the canyon is about 18 km, and the height varies between 200 and 600 meters on average. At some points, the rock spacing narrows to 2 meters, making it almost impossible to see the sky from here.

KIZLAN WINDMILL

Datça Kızlan Windmills are 8 km before Datça if you come by land. The first of these mills in Kızlan Village has been restored with the approval of the district governorship and leased to a private enterprise for tourism purposes. If you wish, you can dine in the restaurant there. Apart from this mill, 3 mills belong to private people today. It is possible to enter and photograph the remaining mills. These mills need attention from the state and extensive restoration. Otherwise, being left uncared for and alone may cause them to disappear over time. No matter how neglected they are, it is hopeful to see that the interest of tourists does not decrease. The Kızlan Mills, which are thought to have been built in the early 1900s, have not been used since the 1950s on the grounds that they have lost their function. The situation of Çeşmeköy and Yazıköy mills in Datça is no different from Kızlan Mills.

The remains found on the steep slope to the north of the castle and on the outskirts are known from the tombs belonging to the Geometric Period and Hellenistic Period, which were found in the rescue excavations carried out by the Milas Museum, that this area was used as a necropolis in the Ancient Period.

In 2007, a children's grave belonging to the Old Bronze Period was unearthed in the pit dug to plant the flag in the north of the castle. The tomb gift and small finds in the soil prove to us that this place was used around 3000 BC. In addition, to the east of the castle, there is a foundation remains dated to the Hellenistic Period (IV century BC) and the remains of a temple in the southeast corner of the walls.
